When Is the Best Time to Visit Saranda

Saranda sits on the southern stretch of the Albanian Riviera, where the sun lingers and the sea stays comfortable for swimming roughly from June to October. When you go really depends on what you're after: a hot, lively summer, or quieter days with warm but uncrowded beaches.
Here's our honest rundown of each season so you can pick the right window. Our apartment is open almost year-round, so it works just as well for the summer buzz as for calmer spring and autumn visits.
Peak season: July and August
Summer in Saranda is hot and dry, with temperatures usually between 25 and 35 °C and the warmest sea of the year, peaking around 26 °C in August. It's perfect for swimming from morning to evening, but expect a busy town, crowded beaches, and the highest accommodation prices.
Shoulder season: late May, June and September
This is our favourite time. The weather is warm and sunny without the extreme heat, there are far fewer people, and the sea is still great for swimming – around 23–24 °C in September. If you don't mind slightly shorter days, it's a lovely balance of warmth and calm.
Edges of the season: October and April/May
You can still swim in October; the water cools slowly and stays above 20 °C into about November. Early spring (April, early May) is lovely for walks and exploring, but the sea is still fresh for a long swim – better suited to the hardy.
Off-season: winter
Winters in Saranda are mild but rainy, and some restaurants and cafés close for the season. Ferries to Corfu run on a reduced schedule – car ferries only operate spring to autumn, while winter usually has just one fast passenger crossing a day, occasionally cancelled by weather. It's the time for those seeking real quiet.
Our tip for choosing a date
Want warm sea and a lively atmosphere? Come in summer. Prefer easy-going days, pleasant temperatures, and fewer people? Aim for June or September. From our apartment it's just a couple of minutes on foot to the beach, so whenever you arrive, the water is right behind the house.
