Pulëbardha & Mirror Beach (Pasqyra) near Saranda

Pulëbardha & Mirror Beach (Pasqyra) near Saranda

A few kilometres south of Saranda, on the road toward Ksamil, sit two small beaches we really like: Pulëbardha and Pasqyra, which most people know as Mirror Beach. Both are pebble coves tucked between pale cliffs, with the kind of deep turquoise water that draws people to the Albanian Riviera in the first place.

From our apartment they make an easy half-day or day trip. They are calmer than the town beach in Saranda and pair naturally with Ksamil and Butrint for one relaxed day by the sea. Here is what is worth knowing before you go.

Two coves close together

Pasqyra (Mirror Beach) lies about 7 km south of Saranda, and Pulëbardha is a little further along the same road toward Ksamil. Both are pebble coves framed by light-coloured rock, so there is no sand, but the water is wonderfully clear. Bring swimwear and something for your feet in the water.

How to get there

A car or taxi along the SH81 coastal road toward Ksamil is the easiest option; for both beaches the final stretch down to the water is a rough, unpaved track, so drive slowly. You can also come by furgon (minibus) on the Saranda–Ksamil/Butrint route: ask the driver to drop you at the turn-off, then walk a short way downhill to the cove.

Parking and entry

The beaches themselves are public and free. At Pasqyra, parking costs roughly 4–5 euros; at Pulëbardha parking is usually free, though spaces fill quickly in summer. Outside the high season everything is quieter and cheaper.

Sunbeds, shade and food

In season you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for a fee, and off-season they are sometimes free. Natural shade is limited, though, so we suggest bringing your own hat, sunscreen and water. Pulëbardha has a pleasant restaurant set on the rocks, looking down over the cove and the bay.

When to go

For that classic mirror effect on the water at Mirror Beach, late morning to early afternoon is best. In July and August both beaches get very busy and the sunbeds are packed tightly together; for more space, arrive early in the morning or visit in May, June or September.

Make it one easy day

From our apartment you can head out in the morning, swim at Pasqyra or Pulëbardha, then carry on in the afternoon to Ksamil or the ancient ruins of Butrint, which are just around the corner. Back to Saranda for dinner in the evening — a full day of turquoise water with very little driving.

FAQ

Are Mirror Beach and Pasqyra the same place?

Yes. Pasqyra means mirror in Albanian, and the beach is called Mirror Beach in English because the calm, sunlit water reflects the sky like a mirror. They are one and the same beach.

How far are the beaches from Saranda?

Pasqyra is about 7 km, roughly 15 minutes by car; Pulëbardha is a little further along the same road, so allow about 15–20 minutes. Both sit on the way to Ksamil.

Are the beaches sand or pebble?

Both are pebble beaches rather than sand, which is part of why the water is so clear. We recommend water shoes, as the stones can be slippery underfoot.

Can I combine the beaches with a trip to Butrint?

Yes. The beaches and the ancient city of Butrint are all on the same road south of Saranda, so you can easily fit a swim plus Butrint or a stop in Ksamil into a single day.
