Boat Trips & Cruises from Saranda

Boat Trips & Cruises from Saranda

The prettiest stretches of coast around Saranda are best seen from the water. Several of the bays and pebble beaches south of town can't really be reached by car or on foot — a boat is the only way in. That's why a full-day cruise is something we honestly recommend to guests, whether you just want to swim in clear water or spend a day finding the spots the crowds never reach.

From our apartment it's only a few minutes along the promenade to the harbour, so an early departure is easy and relaxed, even with a coffee from the kiosk under the building. Below is an honest rundown of which boat trips actually run from Saranda, where they leave from, and what to think about when choosing one.

Full-day coastal cruises

The classic full-day route heads south and usually runs around five to seven hours. Boats stop at the Cape of Qefal, the Bay of Kakome, the Turtle Cave, and the three islets off Ksamil. It's the best way to see the highlights of the coast between Saranda and Ksamil in a single day.

Hidden coves reachable only by boat: Krorëza & Kakome

Krorëza and Kakome are among the last almost-untouched beaches in Albania — you can't realistically get to them by car or on foot. The water is exceptionally clear and the calm is something the main beaches simply don't have. On Krorëza you usually stay a good while (often two to three hours), so there's time to swim, grab lunch at the little beach restaurant, and rent a sunbed.

Snorkelling and swim stops

Most cruises build in several swim and snorkel stops straight off the boat, and snorkel gear is usually included. The rocky stretches, sea caves, and in places a sunken wreck give clear visibility and plenty of fish. Just bring sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses — the sun is stronger out on the water than it looks.

Sunset cruises and party boats

In season there are also shorter sunset trips — a calmer version with drinks and a swim in a quiet bay, as well as livelier party boats with music. They suit late-afternoon plans and make a nice change of pace on a day when you don't want to be on the water the whole time.

Where the boats leave from

Group boats depart from the small harbour on the promenade, by Limani Square near Restaurant Limani. From our apartment you can walk there along the seafront, so there's no driving or parking to sort out before an early start.

Season and when to go

Boats run roughly from May to October, with July and August as the peak when it's warmest and the sea is calmest. Outside peak season there's usually more room on board and more quiet. On windier days some cruises are cancelled because of the swell — so it's worth leaving a buffer and not saving the trip for your last day.
